It’s ghoul’s night out, legendary B-movies horror-punk rockers
The Misfits are coming back to Montreal next week. It is the 4th year in a row that The Misfits are playing in the Metropolitan area since the reunion and always offered brains blowing performance. There couldn’t have been a better timing for a band that sings about astro-zombies, aliens invasions and vampires to have a concert 11 days after Halloween but to hold one on the Night of the Dead itself.
Best known for their infamous devil’s lock haircut and the 50s attitude, there is no doubts that The Misfits, formed in 1977 New Jersey , are one of the most influential punk band in history, to quote the official biography:
” Taking the title of Marilyn Monroe’s last movie as their name in a move to immortalise her image - singer Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only set out to make an impression. They wound up making history and creating a legacy that’s power has not only stood the test of time, but transcended into an entirely new generation. ”
Nofx, Pantera, Metallica, Slayer, Guns & Roses, Marylin Manson and Slipknot among others cited them as influence with Metallica standing as one of their strongest supporters wearing Misfits t-shirts at concerts and covering 3 songs on their albums - Die, Die My Darling, Green Hell and Last Caress.
The band split with Glen Danzig (of Samhain and Danzig fame) somewhere in the 80’s and reunited in 1997 after a long legal battle, with Michael Graves on vocals and Dr.Chud on drums. Although the singing will never be the same as in the Danzig days and most recent releases never equals the old material, Graves offers an honest performance - doesn’t butcher Danzig style too much. But seriously when the band goes live, when the fiend madness is unleashed, when the sweating crowd is chanting fists up the air a powerful and chaotic “Oh oh ohhhh! Hatebreeders!” who gives a fuck about who’s singing anyway?

Last year concert was unfortunately plagued by pisspoor logistic and fuck all management. The location for the gig was a small club in a remote part of the city, far away from downtown area and it was changed at the last minute for a community dance hall on the complete other end of the island. This should not happen this year as they are performing straight downtown at a much bigger and better concert hall, which should give them opportunity to pwn shooting lasers from their eyes… Pew! Pew!
